mapping network drives update work part win

Mapping network drives & update don't work, when part of win

This installation is a Vista Ultimate an upgrade from windows XP-pro which was part of a Win2K3 domain. Cannot map or view files in network drives when using defualt domain login [domainname]\[userid]. However, when using just [userid] the network dirves are visible and mountable.
Similarly, Vista update won't work when the machine is part of the domain (error code 8024402C). However, when the machine is part of a workgroup and not part of the domain Vista update works fine.
